Once Upon a Time...Stories about Life, Family, Faith, and Love!

Hello out there! The weather report for this evening is...Hot, and the later it gets, it will still be hot, but a few degrees less hot. It is 6:15 pm (CST) and it is 100 degrees, it will cool down to 97 degrees at 8 pm and then by 10:00 pm it will 90 degrees. Looking on the bright side of things, the sky is a beautiful blue with some fluffy white clouds overhead!

I think it is important to share good news, and positive, productive ideas. I've had to pray the Serenity Prayer a lot lately:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change

the courage to change the things I can

and the wisdom to know the difference.

Amen.

Today's blog post/story is going to be about my adoption. Sometimes the best way to reach people is to share your own story. And this story, is one of my favorites! It's been almost four years since I've shared this story.

Are you ready? Let me tell you a story!

Dad and the Banker

I've always loved the stories about my adoption. When I was a little girl, my dad would tell me how they got the call sooner than they expected, and how they had to stop and buy diapers, bottles and clothes on the way to get me from the hospital. My mom, dad, big brother and my grandmother all drove from Stephenville, TX where my grandparents lived, to Ft. Worth, TX to pick me up! My dad would say that they picked me out special from all of the babies in the hospital, of course as I grew older I realized that part of the story was a very sweet addition. When I started asking more detailed questions, my mom said that my birth mother wasn't able to take care of me, and so she gave me to a family who could. My mom also told me that being adopted was special, and that I should always be thankful, and I am.
After I grew up and had a family of my own, my dad told me how they paid for my adoption.
I was born in the evening on December 30, 1963. My parents received a phone call on New Year's Eve morning that there was a baby girl ready for them. Not expecting the call quite so soon, they had to come up with the money so that they could bring me home. I need to give you a little history here so that you get the whole picture.
My dad was a science teacher in Sudan, TX. He also drove the school bus. Sudan is a very small town close to Lubbock, TX. My dad called the banker in Sudan to request a loan, and told him that he needed the money immediately. The banker asked if he had any collateral and Dad said, "Just my name." So the banker asked my dad why he needed the money and my dad told him that they were trying to adopt a baby girl and they were supposed to pick me up on January 2.
This is my favorite part, the banker said, "Well, go and get her, we'll figure it out when you get home." Isn't that awesome, I love it!  I also have an old, yellowed newspaper clipping from the Sudan newspaper telling all about the baby shower that the wonderful, gracious people gave my parents. The clipping says "Little Miss Sharla Kay, recently adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Nelson, was the honoree at a shower on Saturday afternoon at the home of....."
Just writing about this makes me emotional, I've been so blessed. There is just no way to describe how thankful I am for my life. But what breaks my heart is that you don't hear about adoption anymore, unless it's for an animal. We need to get the message out there that adoption is and should be the only other option. So many couples aren't able to have children, and want children.
Children are gifts from God, they are not a choice, they are a life.

I love that story, and I pray that there will be more people like that banker. I pray that we
will be able to get the adoption message out there. I look at my children and my grandchildren
and I am just so thankful that I was given the chance to grow up and share my story. Adoption
is a loving life option and adoption saves generations!

I was a happy baby girl! So thankful - so blessed!

I'm going to add one more of my stories below: Actually, it's two stories!

Respecting Life from Conception to Natural Death - 2 Stories!

1. Respecting life from conception to natural death begins with our own families. Being pro-life means that you understand that planned or unplanned, a baby is a baby. I was adopted when I was three days old, really at birth, but my parents couldn't come and take me home until I was three days old. I grew up knowing that I was adopted and my parents explained how much I was loved and I have always been very thankful for my life. I'm a joyful, glass is half-full type of gal! I love to laugh and sing and am definitely a people person! Now, getting back to the reason for this story. When my husband and I got married I was expecting our first child. Abortion had been legal for ten years. Having an abortion never even entered my mind. I was and am very blessed to have a wonderful husband. We immediately picked a date and planned a small wedding. Fast forward to a couple of decades later. Our adult children are very supportive of my pro-life work. In 2006 we were blessed with three precious grandchildren, two of them were unplanned. That summer all three of our children and their children were at our home. I took a picture of the three grandbabies together. Years later, after I became involved in the pro-life mission I thought about that picture and so many more pictures with all ten of our grandchildren. They are all such gifts! We are so blessed! We are thankful for each and every one of our ten grandchildren. One time someone asked me why I fought so hard, why I cared so much. I started thinking about all the statistics I know and then I said, "Let me tell you a story." This woman knows my children and my grandchildren. After I finished my story I asked her which two of my grandchildren shouldn't be here? Could she pick out the ones that weren't planned? She began to cry and squeezed my hand as tears streamed down my cheeks also. I've learned through the years that sometimes you have to tell your own life story for people to understand why you do what you do. I've actually had people who don't know me say, "You're pro-life until it happens to you or to your kids!" And my reply has always been, "Do you have a minute? Let me tell you a story."

 2. Respecting life until natural death - I've spoken to some RCIA classes about my pro-life work. I shared the following story on January 19, 2019

On Thursday, January 10th, I was blessed to share my pro-life message with the
RCIA Class at Sacred Heart. The core part of my message was that we need to
respect life from conception through natural death. I get pretty animated when I speak.
I walk back and forth and my hands are this way and that way - sometimes I make
people laugh (especially when I share my, "You might be Catholic if" stories) and
sometimes the truth of what I say will bring tears to your eyes (and mine too). I talk
about my adoption story and how thankful I am for my life. I share pictures of my
children and grandchildren because I want people to understand that adoption saves
generations. The grim reality on the other hand is that abortion ends generations.
I shared a story about my father this time - it's the first time I've spoken about it
publicly. The story is about respecting life until natural death.
I have to tell you this - when I sat down today I really wasn't sure what I was going to
write about and I'm constantly amazed at the words, the memories that God places
on my heart. So...let me tell you another story:

If you've read the stories from my blog you know that my mother died when I was twelve.
My dad was the sweetest man and he took such good care of my mom, she had cancer
and was sick for a long time. When I moved away from home, got married and was
blessed with a family of my own, my dad would come and visit.
He would go and visit my brother and his family and then come and stay with us.
I have so many memories of him being with us. He would sit at the bar in the kitchen
and chop onions and peel potatoes for me when I was cooking. He liked to watch TV and
in the fall he would shell pecans for me as he watched the football games. He would run
errands with me and we had the best visits - always talking! My dad developed
Alzheimer's in his later years. He had stopped calling me by name about three years
before he died. He recognized me but whether he realized I was his daughter or not I
don't know. I cherish our visits. He lived in a nursing home for the last year and a half
of his life. I would go and see him and put an old movie on - we loved watching
John Wayne Westerns and old war movies. Our favorite John Wayne movie was,
"McClintock." Jim would always buy candy bars before he would stop in to see dad.
He loved seeing his great grandchildren, his eyes would light up.
My brother and his wife would come and visit and he was always so happy to see
everyone. I don't know who dad remembered or if he remembered that we were his
children. The point I stressed was that whether my dad remembered who I was or not,
I knew who he was - he was my sweet dad and I will always be thankful for the time
I spent with him.

The End!

And as always,

Peace and blessings to you and yours, near and far, wherever you are!

Bye for now, Sharla

Life IS a Gift - Love Babies, Born and Unborn -Take Care of Your Family

Hello out there! The weather report for today is HOT! It is 103 degrees right now - 2:20 pm CST. The high for today is 104 degrees. Stay hydrated and if you work outside - stay really hydrated! My heart goes out to all the people who have to work out in the elements. My husband is a welder and many of his jobs are outside and even if he's in the shop - it's hot in there!

This blog post is going to be one of my "all over the place" type of posts. I have so much on my heart and there are a lot of things I want to share, clarify, expose the lies, etc. I took a walk this morning and prayed for God to help me find the right words and to share the right message with everyone who reads my blog.

The following statements, stories, etc. will not be in any order of importance - whatever pops into my mind first is what I will begin with.

On Friday morning, June 24th of 2022 I watched Fox News, and waited for the Supreme Courts decision on Roe v Wade. I was in the living room, folding clothes when I heard they were going to announce the decision. Jim walked in and we both stood there and I tightly held his hand that was holding mine. I'm so thankful that we were there together when we heard the news. We hugged, I cried, we gave thanks to the Lord, and we prayed against any and all adverse reactions that we knew would come from the decision to send abortion regulations back to the states. I've been appalled at the hate mongering that is taking place in our country over this decision.

1. Why is there so much hate for the innocent unborn baby in their mother's womb? How has this country become so callous that they are even against Pregnancy Help Centers and Pregnancy Resource Centers that actually help women and their babies, born and unborn? When did we stop teaching about cause and effect, personal responsibility, moral integrity, and believing in the sanctity of life? And choice? They say: adoption is wrong, pregnancy help centers are bad, getting married and being responsible is unthinkable, and having a baby will just be too hard, as they scream, "Abortion on demand and without apology." Their slogans bring out a wide range of emotions in me; some make me sad, others break my heart, and then there are those that are like a slap in the face. Please God, please help us.

2. This paragraph is important! Responding to the lies that bring fear to pregnant young ladies and pregnant women. They have been saying that you will not be treated if you've had a miscarriage and the baby is still in your womb and that you will not be treated if you have an ectopic pregnancy. That is an out right lie! MISCARRIAGES AND ECTOPIC PREGNANCY TREATMENT ARE NOT ABORTIONS! To learn more about this information please go to liveaction.org and look for the story: DEBUNKED: 11 myths about post-Roe abortion laws.

3. Why are Planned Parenthood Clinics shutting down? They've always claimed that abortions are only 3% of their services. If abortion truly was just 3% - they would have no problems staying in business. It doesn't take a degree in Business or Accounting to figure that out! The abortion industry is big business - a whole lot of blood money! Look up the incomes of the CEO and other top execs at Planned Parenthood.

4. Pregnancy Help Centers and Pregnancy Resource Centers receive no tax payer money and rely on donations from people in their communities. All of their services are free. You don't have to qualify to receive their services. Free ultrasounds, free pregnancy tests, they offer parenting classes, clothes for newborns, infants, and young toddlers and some also have maternity clothes. And so much more! All clothing items and blankets that have been donated are washed by volunteers, new and used. To find out more information contact your local pregnancy help center.                                                                           The following phone number is a National Hotline that is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. 1-800-712-HELP (4357) You can speak to someone in English or Spanish. If someone dials this number they are asked for their zip code or city and state and they will be given the address and phone number for the nearest Pregnancy Help Center/ Pregnancy Resource Center. (Yes, I've called it! I like to make sure information I share is accurate.)

 5. The political response has been an embarrassing array of temper tantrum throwing, threats, ugliness and disgraceful! Lord Jesus, help us! I mean this from the bottom of my heart - we are dealing with spiritual warfare. Put on the full armor of God! The following scriptures and prayers are from a previous post. (6/29/21)

The scriptures I share in my blog today are from our family bible, Saint Joseph Edition of the New American Bible.

Christian Warfare:                                                                                                                           Ephesians 6:10-17

Finally, draw your strength from the Lord and his mighty power. Put on the armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil. Our battle is not against human forces but against the principalities and powers, the rulers of this world of darkness, the evil spirits in regions above. You must put on the armor of God if you are to resist on the evil day; do all that your duty requires, and hold your ground. Stand fast, with the truth as the belt around your waist, justice as your breastplate, and zeal to propagate the gospel of peace as your footgear. In all circumstances hold faith up before you as your shield; it will help you extinguish the fiery darts of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, the word of God.

Assiduous Prayer:   ( I looked up the word, assiduous - it means, diligent, steadily attentive.)                 Ephesians 6:18-20

At every opportunity pray in the Spirit, using prayers and petitions of every sort. Pray constantly and attentively for all in the holy company. Pray for me that God may put his word on my lips, that I may courageously make known the mystery for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may have the courage to proclaim it as I ought.

I am guilty of thinking, "I know that scripture" so I will just glance over it. As I typed the scriptures from Ephesians, I read them over and over. It made me think about Paul, and how he worked so hard to share the gospel, the faith and determination he maintained. The following is the last four verses in his Epistle to the Ephesians.

Conclusion:                                                                                                                                  Ephesians 6:21-24

Tychicus, my dear brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will keep you informed as to how I am and what I am doing. I have sent him to you for the very purpose of giving you news about me for your hearts' consolation.                                                                                                                        May God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ grant the brothers peace and love and faith. Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with unfailing love.

I don't think I've ever read those last four verses - They are so full of hope and love - The final verse, "Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with unfailing love."  I say, "Amen and amen"!

The St. Michael Prayer is one my family and I repeat on a daily basis - and sometimes, this prayer is prayed multiple times!

                                                                       St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

I'm back from the past - 7/9/2022
If you are wondering how you can help mothers and their babies, born and unborn, in need - here are a few suggestions. Call your local pregnancy help center and ask what they need. Purchase the items and / or make monetary contributions. If you have time - offer to wash some of the donated clothing they receive. I'm sure they have even more suggestions if you call them. Make sure your parish or church has a contact person if a family or pregnant mother is in need of help. One of the most important things we can do is to take care of our own families and to teach our children, by word and example how to help others, in our neighborhoods, in our parishes and churches, and in our communities.

I'm going to close with a prayer I wrote in the fall of 2016:

My prayer today is for the unborn, the innocent little babes.
My prayer today is for the little ones who are hungry and abused.
My prayer today is for the children who have to grow up too fast.
My prayer is for the teenagers who move from one foster home to the next.
My prayer is for those who live in group homes and those who have no home at all.
My prayer is that all these children, from the unborn baby in their mother's womb,
to the fully grown young ladies and young men, that they will be loved
and protected, nurtured and fed. I pray that they have shoes that fit and clothes
for all the seasons. I pray that they have a roof over their heads. And not just a roof,
but an actual home where they feel safe and feel loved and special.
Dear God, please, protect all children everywhere. Amen.

One more thing! - Adoption IS a loving life option!

And as always - Peace and blessings to you and yours, near and far, wherever you are!

Bye for now,
Sharla

Family Time, St. Anthony of Padua, Faith and The Holy Trinity

Good morning and hello out there! Today is June 13th - St. Anthony of Padua's Feast Day!
St. Anthony of Padua pray for us!
Yesterday, Jim and I were blessed to go to Mass at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bryan, TX. We were in town for the weekend to watch our granddaughter play softball. We enjoyed watching the games and visiting with our family. I remembered that we had been to St. Anthony's Catholic Church six years before. I've been praying the St. Anthony Novena and was so thankful that Jim and I could go to Mass at that same church yesterday. We stopped by the prayer chapel on Saturday after one of the games and it was so peaceful. We looked at the Mass times and decided that we would go to the early Mass on Sunday. I looked back in my blog archives and found the post I wrote a little over six years ago about another trip we took - it included family time, softball, and St. Anthony's Catholic Church. It's a reminder to me about how some things change and many things stay the same; Our faith and love of God - yesterday was Holy Trinity Sunday, spending time with our family; near and far, and being so thankful for our many blessings.
Today is going to be another extremely hot day - stay hydrated and be safe out there! The post I wrote six years ago will be pasted below.

And as always, peace and blessings to you and yours, near and far, wherever you are!

This picture was taken about three years ago - Jim decided that our statues of St. Anthony, Mother Mary, and St. Francis of Assisi needed straw hats to protect them from the hot sun! I discreetly got rid of the hats the next year - yes, Jim noticed! If the temperatures continue to be in the 100s, the hats will probably reappear!
Love my husband ! We celebrated 39 years of marriage earlier this month!

UNEXPECTED BLESSINGS, FINDING GOD EVERYWHERE!

Hello Out There! How has your week been? I'm so happy that I finally have time to
sit down and write a post. It has been ten days since I wrote my last one. I think I
will do a timeline to catch y'all up on everything.
On Thursday, March 31st, Jim and I headed out of town. We were going to see our
oldest son and his family on Friday, April 1st. We decided to take
off a day early and just take our time and stop here and there and everywhere!
We were supposed to leave early on Thursday morning. The early part didn't happen.
We left around 11:00 a.m. I only had to run back into the house twice to grab the
things I forgot. We weren't even out of the driveway yet so it wasn't a big deal.
When Jim asked me if I was sure I had everything I smiled and said yep, I think so.
Then I told him to drive kind of slow as we were going down the street so that I could
go over everything we brought, just in case we had to turn around. I did get a "look"
from him on that comment. After a few minutes I said, "we're good, lets say a prayer
and speed it up!" Jim always says that patience is a virtue and it is not one of the
virtues that he has. After being married to me for almost 33 years, I think Jim has
definitely earned the patience virtue!
We do have a good time when we are able to travel out of town. We take our time
and stop whenever we see something interesting or if we just want to take another
look. We are known to whip U-turns, but only on country roads when there isn't much
traffic. We stopped at a little town southeast of Temple, TX to visit a sweet couple that
moved away from San Angelo years ago. They have always been like a second set of
parents to Jim and they are special to me also! We stayed a couple of hours and then
continued on our way. We pulled into Bryan/College Station just as the sun was
going down. We were trying to find a place to stay and took a wrong turn. Then all
of a sudden I cried out, "Look, it's St. Anthony's Catholic Church, he found us!"
Jim found a place to park and we got out and walked around. You will not believe
what we found. They have a beautiful rosary garden dedicated to the unborn. It is
called St. Anthony's Walking Rosary and the sign says that it was dedicated and
blessed on 12/08/2006 as a memorial for the victims of abortion in our community
and in our world. My eyes filled with tears and I began to cry as I read all the names
of the groups and people who contributed to the garden. I told Jim how much God
knows our hearts, and how amazing it is that St. Anthony helped us find our way
to this special place. We walked along the stepping stones of the rosary for a few
minutes and then we checked the Mass schedule and drove off to find a hotel. The
next morning we woke up early and drove back to St. Anthony's church for the
7:15 a.m. Mass. It was overcast and a heavy mist was falling as we parked and
dashed to the Prayer Chapel. Mass was wonderful, and afterwards we talked to
some of the parishioners. They were all very friendly. Our Bishop for the San
Angelo Catholic Diocese is from there. When the people found out where we
were from they all told us how blessed we are to have him as our bishop. We told
them that yes, we are very blessed, he is wonderful. Some people were cleaning
the large church sanctuary and they let us go in and look around. It is a beautiful
old catholic church. Another lady stopped by and told us that we should go over
to St. Joseph's Catholic Church for the 8:15 a.m. Mass with the school children.
Jim and I finished looking at the church and when we walked outside that same
lady was waiting in her vehicle for us to follow her. We went to Mass at
St. Joseph's and really enjoyed seeing all the school children. The sanctuary was
full of families. I love seeing the mothers and fathers, and all the little ones!
Jim and I felt so blessed, what an awesome way to begin our Friday morning.
After Mass we met some more people and we were introduced to the priest.
He shared some stories about our bishop and told us how he knew that someday
he would be a bishop. We thanked him and said good-bye.
While Jim and I were looking at the beautiful, Old Testament story telling
stained glass windows, a lady walked up and started talking to us.
Her name is Ruth, and she is the sweetest woman. She led us through the
doors to the Adoration Chapel and told us to sign in.
As Jim and I were kneeling to say our prayers, she brought us three rosaries and
some reading material to take with us. Ruth told us that one rosary was for our
vehicle and the other two were for us. She hugged us and then she was gone. Jim
and I stayed for a little while and prayed. Tears kept streaming down my face. I
could feel the Holy Spirit right there with us. When Jim and I got into the truck
I immediately hung up one of the rosaries on our rearview mirror. We went back
to the hotel, had some breakfast, packed and checked out. We had only been gone
from home a little over 24 hours and were so humbled at the blessings we had
received. I just kept thinking about one of my favorite hymns;
Lead Me, Lord. I sing the refrain from it a lot.
"Lead me, Lord, lead me, Lord, by the light of truth
to seek and to find the narrow way.
Be my way be my truth; be my life, my Lord,
and lead me, Lord, today."
We were on the road again. We stopped at a neat store on the side of
the highway. There was every kind of concrete statue you could imagine, and a
bunch of other stuff too! Jim took a picture of me next to a life size painted
statue of a lion. I wanted to take a picture of him by a big ape but he wouldn't
cooperate! We journeyed on, stopped at a barbecue place and ate and then
drove on to our destination. We checked in at our hotel, freshened up, and drove
over to our son's home. Our granddaughters ran out to greet us right as we drove
up. Hugs and more hugs, kisses too and then we all loaded up and headed to
the field where our younger granddaughter was having her first softball
scrimmage, she is 7 and she is the catcher, our son is the coach. We enjoyed the
game, they both did a great job! We found a place to eat dinner and then we
called it a night! The next day was going to start early and we all needed a good
nights rest! I will have to finish telling about the rest of our trip in the next day
or two! I've been running back and forth fixing dinner and washing dishes while
I wrote this post! The cornbread is almost ready and the goulash is simmering!
Have a wonderful evening. God bless you all wherever you are!
                                                                 Bye for now, Sharla

Step Out of the Darkness and Into the Light of Christ

Hello out there! The weather report for today is HOT! Saturday was 107 and Sunday was about the same and it is 100 degrees right now at 3:20 pm. Blue skies, a few clouds here and there, and a hot breeze makes it feel even warmer. Please stay hydrated! My husband is a welder and I always worry about him when he is working out in the heat. He says he is used to it - drinks plenty of fluid and keeps a wet bandana around his neck. So... if you work outside please stay hydrated and look for the shade!

I've copied a post I wrote on May 4th last year. After all the ugliness in the news last week, I think I will follow the steps I took back then. I'm pasting the story below.

As always,

Peace and blessings to you and yours, near and far, where ever you are!

Step Away from the Noise and Feel God's Peace

Hello out there - The weather forecast today is; blue skies, fluffy white clouds, and a cool breeze is in the air. The temperature is an awesome 66 degrees right now - yesterday it was a lot warmer at this time - you have to love spring weather in San Angelo!

This past Sunday, the Fifth Sunday of Easter, the holy Gospel reading was John 15:1-8.                  Jesus said to His disciples: "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower. He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and every one that does He prunes so that it bears more fruit. You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you. Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither; people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you. By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples." (USCCB & Magnificat  - Volume 23, No. 3)

Jesus is the vine, we are the branches! Sometimes I have to step away from all the noise in this world to hear what God is saying. The past couple of weeks I haven't watched any news on television or scrolled for news on my phone. We get the daily newspaper and I read the obituaries and pray for the souls of all those who have passed on. I place my hand over their names and/or over their pictures as I pray for them. I pray for comfort for their loved ones, the ones who are left behind. I read the Daily Promise, on the same page as the obituaries. Yesterday's scripture was Psalm 127:3 "Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him." (New Living Translation)  I glance through the headlines and usually choose not to read any of the stories. I read a couple of the cartoons; "For Better or Worse"  "Baby Blues" and "Family Circus" are my favorites and the ones I always read. If Jim has already read the paper, I toss it in the trash. I read the daily scriptures, prayers, hymns and psalms from my Magnificat. Reading God's word helps keep me on track and He still has to steer my gaze forward as I start to detour and make unnecessary stops. I pray that I am fruitful in all that I do. Many times I fall short but I keep on trying. I'm so thankful for God's mercy and for His amazing grace!

There are a couple of sayings that come to my mind on a regular basis: "You can't see the forest because of the trees" and "Think outside of the box." The Serenity Prayer is also something I pray often. Many times we or I fall into that trap of worrying about what we cannot do instead of doing what we can. This past year has opened my eyes to so many things. An example of the forest is worrying about taking care of people we may never meet. An example of the trees is our own family, our neighbors, members of our parish or church congregations. Sometimes helping a mom in need is as simple as helping our own adult children who are busy moms and dads. Wave at your neighbors and smile! Offer to pull the trash carts out for an elderly neighbor, or place their newspaper on their front porch during cold or rainy weather. Greet old and new families after Mass or your church service and tell them how happy you are to see them. Make sure you tell the cashiers at the grocery stores, etc. thank you and wish them a great day. There are so many ways we can reach out to the people all around us and sometimes your big smile or "Hey, how are y'all doing?" will mean more than you ever know. Ask God to guide you and He will place people in your path. Take care of your family - love them, listen to them, be patient with them, give them your time! God has placed so many people in my path and more times than not, I'm the one who ends up feeling so blessed. Step away from the noise and have a nice visit with Jesus! His peace will set you free! God's amazing grace is such a gift and all we have to do is accept it.

Peace and blessings to you and yours! Bye for now, Sharla

Updated Helpful Links and Information - Please, Pass it On!

Hello out there ! This morning I went through all of my pro-life helpful links and re-checked websites, etc. I think it is always important to pass on information that can help people - especially young ladies and women who are dealing with an unplanned or crisis pregnancy.

Many of the places listed I have actually visited. Others I have contacted by phone and/or receive updates via email.

Helpful Information for mothers and their babies, born and unborn.

Pregnancy Help Center of The Concho Valley -
All services are free; pregnancy tests, sonograms, parenting classes, etc. They help
with baby clothes, maternity clothes, etc. The volunteers and staff are friendly and
compassionate - they want to help the mothers and their babies - the fathers too!
www.pregnancyhelpcenter.net

The following phone number is a National Hotline that is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. 1-800-712-HELP (4357) You can speak to someone in English or Spanish. If someone dials this number they are asked for their zip code or city and state and they will be given the address to the nearest Pregnancy Help Center/ Pregnancy Resource Center. (Yes, I've called it!)

The hotline information is also on a banner:

Pregnant? You have options We Care - We Can Help - 1-800-712-HELP. If you would like to purchase a banner like this for your church or community center or parish hall - please go to Heritage House 76 where you can find this banner and all kinds of helpful things; fetal model sets, banners, bumper stickers, etc. www.hh76.org or call 1-800-858-3040

The Life Center has four locations in West Texas: Midland, Odessa, Andrews, and Big Spring. They offer so many things and services for the mothers, their babies and for the fathers as well. Click on their website; www.midlandlifecenter.org; thelifecentertx.org  (I've visited the Midland location).

Seton Home of San Antonio - They provide a safe haven for young teenage girls to live, have their babies, finish school, learn life skills, etc. These young ladies range in age from twelve to seventeen or nineteen if they have their baby before they turn eighteen. Everything they need is there; the daycare while they go to school, the small apartments, the large kitchen and dining area, etc.    setonhomesa.org  (I visited Seton Home in August 2017).

Gladney Home in Ft. Worth - This is an amazing place, full of history; providing a safe and comfortable place for young ladies who are choosing adoption for their babies. Depending on the young ladies situation, they can live there and finish school while they are waiting for the birth of their baby. They can choose an open adoption or a closed adoption. They can also go through the adoption process without living on site. There are other Gladney locations in the state of Texas. I'm not sure if they all provide housing but they have offices in Austin, Midland, and Abilene. (Those are the ones I know of.) https://adoptionsbygladney.com and www.gladney.org  (Visited several times).

Annunciation Maternity Home in Georgetown, TX -They are nationally accredited. This home is similar to the Seton Home. https://www.thematernityhome.org.

Elizabeth House Maternity Home, Bryan, College Station - https://elizhouse.com

Rachel's Vineyard - They offer post abortion counseling and weekend retreats in English and Spanish for women and men. They have women only retreats and men only retreats. They are a very compassionate organization. https://www.rachelsvineyard.org

Please, share some or all of this information in your church bulletins, news-letters/newspapers. Check out all the websites for yourselves, and you might find even more good news to share.

Being pro-life begins in our own homes, within our own families, and reaching out to those in our parishes and communities.

Peace and blessings to you and yours, near and far, wherever you are!

Bye for now,

Sharla

Prayers and Praying!

Good morning out there! Todays weather report - a cool breeze is in the air and it is cloudy. We are supposed to have thunderstorms later this afternoon. We really need the rain - praying that we don't have any hail or tornados along with the rain.

Prayers and praying! Oh my goodness - prayers are needed for people all over the world. I've shared the prayers of the rosary before, but it has been awhile, so I'm going to post them below. I'm copying and pasting them so the text might look a little different. I'm also listing a step by step on how to pray the rosary. Sometimes there is so much to pray about I don't know where to start - so I begin with praying the rosary, the beautiful prayers and the meditations about the life of our Lord, Jesus Christ, bring people and situations to my mind and then I'm able to pray about everything that is weighing on my heart. I hope this helps you - if you don't usually pray the rosary - begin with one decade (the first mystery).

The following are the prayers of the rosary -
The Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in
Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died,
and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from
the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the
Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven; hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and
lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for
us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory Be To The Father
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Hail, Holy Queen (Pray this prayer at the end of the rosary)
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope,
to thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our
sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears; turn, then, most gracious
Advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us, and after this, our exile, show unto us
the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises
of Christ.

Now that you have the prayers of the rosary, the next step is teaching you how
