Step Out of the Darkness and Into the Light of Christ

Hello out there! The weather report for today is HOT! Saturday was 107 and Sunday was about the same and it is 100 degrees right now at 3:20 pm. Blue skies, a few clouds here and there, and a hot breeze makes it feel even warmer. Please stay hydrated! My husband is a welder and I always worry about him when he is working out in the heat. He says he is used to it - drinks plenty of fluid and keeps a wet bandana around his neck. So... if you work outside please stay hydrated and look for the shade!

I've copied a post I wrote on May 4th last year. After all the ugliness in the news last week, I think I will follow the steps I took back then. I'm pasting the story below.

As always,

Peace and blessings to you and yours, near and far, where ever you are!

Step Away from the Noise and Feel God's Peace

Hello out there - The weather forecast today is; blue skies, fluffy white clouds, and a cool breeze is in the air. The temperature is an awesome 66 degrees right now - yesterday it was a lot warmer at this time - you have to love spring weather in San Angelo!

This past Sunday, the Fifth Sunday of Easter, the holy Gospel reading was John 15:1-8.                  Jesus said to His disciples: "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower. He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and every one that does He prunes so that it bears more fruit. You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you. Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither; people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you. By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples." (USCCB & Magnificat  - Volume 23, No. 3)

Jesus is the vine, we are the branches! Sometimes I have to step away from all the noise in this world to hear what God is saying. The past couple of weeks I haven't watched any news on television or scrolled for news on my phone. We get the daily newspaper and I read the obituaries and pray for the souls of all those who have passed on. I place my hand over their names and/or over their pictures as I pray for them. I pray for comfort for their loved ones, the ones who are left behind. I read the Daily Promise, on the same page as the obituaries. Yesterday's scripture was Psalm 127:3 "Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him." (New Living Translation)  I glance through the headlines and usually choose not to read any of the stories. I read a couple of the cartoons; "For Better or Worse"  "Baby Blues" and "Family Circus" are my favorites and the ones I always read. If Jim has already read the paper, I toss it in the trash. I read the daily scriptures, prayers, hymns and psalms from my Magnificat. Reading God's word helps keep me on track and He still has to steer my gaze forward as I start to detour and make unnecessary stops. I pray that I am fruitful in all that I do. Many times I fall short but I keep on trying. I'm so thankful for God's mercy and for His amazing grace!

There are a couple of sayings that come to my mind on a regular basis: "You can't see the forest because of the trees" and "Think outside of the box." The Serenity Prayer is also something I pray often. Many times we or I fall into that trap of worrying about what we cannot do instead of doing what we can. This past year has opened my eyes to so many things. An example of the forest is worrying about taking care of people we may never meet. An example of the trees is our own family, our neighbors, members of our parish or church congregations. Sometimes helping a mom in need is as simple as helping our own adult children who are busy moms and dads. Wave at your neighbors and smile! Offer to pull the trash carts out for an elderly neighbor, or place their newspaper on their front porch during cold or rainy weather. Greet old and new families after Mass or your church service and tell them how happy you are to see them. Make sure you tell the cashiers at the grocery stores, etc. thank you and wish them a great day. There are so many ways we can reach out to the people all around us and sometimes your big smile or "Hey, how are y'all doing?" will mean more than you ever know. Ask God to guide you and He will place people in your path. Take care of your family - love them, listen to them, be patient with them, give them your time! God has placed so many people in my path and more times than not, I'm the one who ends up feeling so blessed. Step away from the noise and have a nice visit with Jesus! His peace will set you free! God's amazing grace is such a gift and all we have to do is accept it.

Peace and blessings to you and yours! Bye for now, Sharla

Updated Helpful Links and Information - Please, Pass it On!

Hello out there ! This morning I went through all of my pro-life helpful links and re-checked websites, etc. I think it is always important to pass on information that can help people - especially young ladies and women who are dealing with an unplanned or crisis pregnancy.

Many of the places listed I have actually visited. Others I have contacted by phone and/or receive updates via email.

Helpful Information for mothers and their babies, born and unborn.

Pregnancy Help Center of The Concho Valley -
All services are free; pregnancy tests, sonograms, parenting classes, etc. They help
with baby clothes, maternity clothes, etc. The volunteers and staff are friendly and
compassionate - they want to help the mothers and their babies - the fathers too!
www.pregnancyhelpcenter.net

The following phone number is a National Hotline that is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. 1-800-712-HELP (4357) You can speak to someone in English or Spanish. If someone dials this number they are asked for their zip code or city and state and they will be given the address to the nearest Pregnancy Help Center/ Pregnancy Resource Center. (Yes, I've called it!)

The hotline information is also on a banner:

Pregnant? You have options We Care - We Can Help - 1-800-712-HELP. If you would like to purchase a banner like this for your church or community center or parish hall - please go to Heritage House 76 where you can find this banner and all kinds of helpful things; fetal model sets, banners, bumper stickers, etc. www.hh76.org or call 1-800-858-3040

The Life Center has four locations in West Texas: Midland, Odessa, Andrews, and Big Spring. They offer so many things and services for the mothers, their babies and for the fathers as well. Click on their website; www.midlandlifecenter.org; thelifecentertx.org  (I've visited the Midland location).

Seton Home of San Antonio - They provide a safe haven for young teenage girls to live, have their babies, finish school, learn life skills, etc. These young ladies range in age from twelve to seventeen or nineteen if they have their baby before they turn eighteen. Everything they need is there; the daycare while they go to school, the small apartments, the large kitchen and dining area, etc.    setonhomesa.org  (I visited Seton Home in August 2017).

Gladney Home in Ft. Worth - This is an amazing place, full of history; providing a safe and comfortable place for young ladies who are choosing adoption for their babies. Depending on the young ladies situation, they can live there and finish school while they are waiting for the birth of their baby. They can choose an open adoption or a closed adoption. They can also go through the adoption process without living on site. There are other Gladney locations in the state of Texas. I'm not sure if they all provide housing but they have offices in Austin, Midland, and Abilene. (Those are the ones I know of.) https://adoptionsbygladney.com and www.gladney.org  (Visited several times).

Annunciation Maternity Home in Georgetown, TX -They are nationally accredited. This home is similar to the Seton Home. https://www.thematernityhome.org.

Elizabeth House Maternity Home, Bryan, College Station - https://elizhouse.com

Rachel's Vineyard - They offer post abortion counseling and weekend retreats in English and Spanish for women and men. They have women only retreats and men only retreats. They are a very compassionate organization. https://www.rachelsvineyard.org

Please, share some or all of this information in your church bulletins, news-letters/newspapers. Check out all the websites for yourselves, and you might find even more good news to share.

Being pro-life begins in our own homes, within our own families, and reaching out to those in our parishes and communities.

Peace and blessings to you and yours, near and far, wherever you are!

Bye for now,

Sharla

Prayers and Praying!

Good morning out there! Todays weather report - a cool breeze is in the air and it is cloudy. We are supposed to have thunderstorms later this afternoon. We really need the rain - praying that we don't have any hail or tornados along with the rain.

Prayers and praying! Oh my goodness - prayers are needed for people all over the world. I've shared the prayers of the rosary before, but it has been awhile, so I'm going to post them below. I'm copying and pasting them so the text might look a little different. I'm also listing a step by step on how to pray the rosary. Sometimes there is so much to pray about I don't know where to start - so I begin with praying the rosary, the beautiful prayers and the meditations about the life of our Lord, Jesus Christ, bring people and situations to my mind and then I'm able to pray about everything that is weighing on my heart. I hope this helps you - if you don't usually pray the rosary - begin with one decade (the first mystery).

The following are the prayers of the rosary -
The Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in
Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died,
and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from
the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the
Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven; hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and
lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for
us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory Be To The Father
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Hail, Holy Queen (Pray this prayer at the end of the rosary)
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope,
to thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our
sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears; turn, then, most gracious
Advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us, and after this, our exile, show unto us
the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises
of Christ.
