The Simple Things in Life and a 1967 Hit Song by "The Turtles"

Hello out there and Happy Valentine's Day!

We were blessed with rain showers and thunder during the night and more rain this morning. The sunshine has now broken through the clouds and it's beautiful outside!

Sharing a sweet memory from many, many years ago:

I watched my first Super Bowl game on January 20, 1985. (I googled super bowl with Dan Marino and Joe Montana to get the exact date!) Super Bowl XIX  aka Super Bowl 19.

Our Super Bowl party was held in the living room of our small home. Jim had gone to our neighborhood grocery store and bought lunchmeat, cheese, chips and soda. We grabbed toys from our 13 month old son's bedroom and put them on the living room floor. The play pen was already set up in the living room. Our daughter, who was one day shy of one month old, was in my arms, Jim's arms, or asleep in the play pen. I don't remember who we wanted to win, we liked both teams and both of the quarterbacks. I don't remember the half time show or how exciting the game was or wasn't. I just remember the important part, that we were together as a family. We watched the game and took care of our babies.

The years have come and gone and it's hard to believe that Super Bowl LX aka Super Bowl 60 was  played last Sunday. Jim and I have never been to a Super Bowl party outside of our home. We haven't watched every super bowl but the ones we've watched have always been together. Our children are grown with families of their own and they watch the game with their families in their homes.

Jim and I have attended the 6:00 pm Mass at our parish for over twenty years. We usually get home in time to watch the last half of the Super Bowl game. I'll heat up leftovers, we'll eat and watch the rest of the game. Our teenage grandson was with us at Mass this past Sunday. He came home with us and ate leftovers as we watched the game. The Patriots had not scored yet and I usually go for the underdog. I hollered at the tv something like, "Come on guys, you've got to get on the board!" He and Jim just shook their heads when I yelled from my chair for the running back to, Go! Go! Go!  They scored a touchdown! I said, "See, they just needed me here to cheer them on." They both laughed at that remark. Yes, I know the Patriot's lost, but at least there wasn't a big fat goose egg on the scoreboard anymore.

Several years ago, I bought Jim a musical card for either Valentine's or our Anniversary that had part of the lyrics to "Happy Together" by The Turtles. It was a hit in 1967. We used to listen to "The Oldies but Goldies" a lot and when that song would play we would always sing a certain refrain together. It's an upbeat, sweet song. Anyway, sometimes when things are crazy, hectic, etc. one of us will sing this refrain from that song, "So happy together, how is the weather?" and then we'll both laugh. Because you know what, memories, love, laughter and tears all go together. Take time today to remind your loved ones just how much they mean to you! Life is short, the days and years pass by so quickly. Don't argue about silly things that don't matter. Forgive quickly and move on. Be thankful for the simple things in life! Trust in God, pray always, and take care of your family.

1 Corinthians 13:13

So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

About five and a half years ago, Jim used a green pecan and wrote our initials on the sidewalk in our backyard! It eventually faded but I still remember how that sweet gesture touched my heart.

Peace and blessings to you and yours,

near and far, wherever you are!

Bye for now, Sharla

Seeds of Light and The Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary with Pro-Life Meditations

Hello out there! Another chilly day but the ice and snow has almost melted away! This afternoon the sun broke through the clouds and I say "Yay!"

I'm back to blogging - I feel the words rushing forth again! There is a page in my blog where I'm able to see the stats; which stories that have been read for the week and the different countries where my blog is accessed. Someone read my very first post which was written back in 2014, and other stories from different years popped up as well. Singapore, China, Brazil, Sweden, Ireland, Mexico, India, and the US are the top locations. Many times I feel like I've shared all there is to share. But when I saw the stats yesterday I realized that there is always someone who needs words of hope, a message of love, a funny story to lighten the load, and scriptures for guidance to help light the way. I'm always amazed that people find my obscure blog with all that is available online. But God reminded me yesterday, that when I write from my heart, that little seed of light, He will send it where it needs to go. In all things, big or small, trust in God. He is the way, the truth and the light! Thank you for reading my blog, near and far, wherever you are, my prayers are with you!

Yesterday I shared the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary with the pro-life meditations. Today I'm sharing the Sorrowful Mysteries with pro-life meditations. The following link shares all the prayers of the rosary and is a step by step guide for those who might need it! I wrote it back in 2019 so there is a story that goes with it!

https://adoptedandblessed.blogspot.com/2019/02/a-step-by-step-prayer-by-prayer-guide.html

 First Sorrowful Mystery

The Agony in the Garden

Luke 22:44-45
In His anguish He prayed with all the greater intensity, and His sweat
became like drops of blood falling to the ground. Then He rose from
prayer and came to His disciples, only to find them asleep, exhausted
with grief.

Let us pray for mothers and fathers who are in agony because they
are tempted to abort a child. May they be given the good news that
there are alternatives, and may they make use of the help that is available.

Second Sorrowful Mystery
The Scourging at the Pillar

John 19:1
Pilate's next move was to take Jesus and have Him scourged.

As Christ's flesh was torn by the instruments of those who scourged
Him, so the bodies of babies in the womb are torn by the instruments
of the abortionists. Let us pray that abortionists may repent of these
 acts of child-killing.

Third Sorrowful Mystery
The Crowning With Thorns

Matthew 27:28-29
They stripped off His clothes and wrapped Him in a scarlet
military cloak. Weaving a crown out of thorns they fixed it on
His head, and stuck a reed in His right hand...

Jesus suffered the pain of thorns in His head, and did so silently.
We pray for the mothers and fathers of aborted children. So many
of them suffer deep grief and regret over a choice they can never
reverse. So many suffer in silence, because others tell them it's no big deal.

Fourth Sorrowful Mystery
The Carrying of the Cross

John 19:17
....carrying the cross by Himself, He went out to what is called the
Place of the Skull (in Hebrew, Golgotha).

Jesus was not condemned by the power of wicked people. He was
condemned because of the silence of good people. Silence always
helps the oppressor, never the victim. Let us pray that we may
never be silent about abortion, but rather will clearly speak up to
 save babies from death.

Fifth Sorrowful Mystery
The Crucifixion

Luke 23:46
Jesus uttered a loud cry and said, "Father, into Your hands
I commend My spirit." After He said this, He expired.

As we ponder the death of Christ, let us remember the many women who have died from so-called "safe, legal" abortions. Let us ask forgiveness and mercy for them. May their memory save other women from making this tragic mistake.

Peace and blessings to you and yours,
near and far, wherever you are!
Bye for now, Sharla

Sharing The Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary with Pro-Life Meditations

Hello out there! My weather report for today is, Brrrr! It's cold outside! The sun is shining and some of the icy snow is melting. I pray that you are warm and safe, near and far, wherever you are!

Last night, before the 6:00 pm Mass, we prayed the rosary for the unborn babies. I was blessed to lead the third and fourth Glorious Mysteries. The pro-life rosary has special meditations after the scripture for each mystery. As we prayed the rosary last night, I realized that I haven't shared this special rosary  in several years.

Since today is Monday I'm sharing "The Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary" with Pro-Life Meditations.  I'll continue with The Sorrowful Mysteries on Tuesday, The Glorious Mysteries on Wednesday, and The Luminous Mysteries on Thursday with the pro-life meditations for each day. I pray that they will be a blessing to you and yours!

THE SIGN OF THE CROSS
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

 THE APOSTLES' CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
He descended into hell;
on the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.

Pray - "The Our Father"
Pray three Hail Marys'
Pray - The Glory be to the Father

First Joyful Mystery
The Annunciation

Luke 1:28
And when the angel had come to her, he said, "Hail, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women."

Mary is troubled by the angel's greeting, yet rejoices to do God's will. Let us pray
that those who are troubled by their pregnancy may have the grace to trust in
God's will.

After each intention, we pray one "Our Father", "Ten Hail Marys",
one "Glory be to the Father",  and one "O' My Jesus" prayer. For the Pro-Life Rosary
we add "Jesus, protect and save the unborn" at the end, before starting the next mystery.

Second Joyful Mystery
The Visitation

Luke 1:41-42
Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and cried out in a loud voice:
"Blest are you among women and blest is the fruit of your womb."

John the Baptist leapt for joy in his mother's womb. We pray that people may realize
that abortion is not about children who "might" come into the world, but is about
children who are already in the world, living and growing in the womb, and are
scheduled to be killed.

Pray one "Our Father", "Ten Hail Marys",
one "Glory be to the Father",  and one "O' My Jesus" prayer.
"Jesus, protect and save the unborn"

Third Joyful Mystery
The Birth Of Jesus

Luke 2:7
She gave birth to her first-born Son and wrapped Him in
swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger, because there was
no room for them in the place where travelers lodged.

God Himself was born as a child. The greatness of a person does not depend on size,
for the newborn King is very small. Let us pray for an end to prejudice against the tiny
babies threatened by abortion.

Pray one "Our Father", "Ten Hail Marys",
one "Glory be to the Father",  and one "O' My Jesus" prayer.
"Jesus, protect and save the unborn"

Fourth Joyful Mystery
The Presentation

Luke 2:22-23
When the day came to purify them according to the law of Moses,
the couple brought Him up to Jerusalem so that He could be presented
to the Lord, for it is written in the law of the  Lord, "Every first-born male
shall be consecrated to the Lord."

The Child is presented in the Temple because the Child belongs to God. Children are
not the property of their parents, nor of the government. They -and we- belong to
God Himself.

Pray one "Our Father", "Ten Hail Marys",
one "Glory be to the Father",  and one "O' My Jesus" prayer.
"Jesus, protect and save the unborn"

Fifth Joyful Mystery
Finding The Child Jesus in The Temple

Luke 2:46
On the third day they came upon Him in the temple sitting in the midst
of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.

The boy Jesus was filled with wisdom, because He is God. Let us pray that all people
may see the wisdom of His teachings about the dignity of life, and may understand that
this teaching is not an opinion, but the truth.

Pray one "Our Father", "Ten Hail Marys",
one "Glory be to the Father",  and one "O My Jesus" prayer.

"Jesus, protect and save the unborn"'

End the rosary by praying the "Hail Holy Queen Prayer" and making the Sign of the Cross

The one thing that I've continued with my daily rosaries is to say, "Jesus, protect and save the unborn" after each decade. But I realized last night that I have missed these heartfelt and thought provoking pro-life meditations.

Psalm 139:14 - I am fearfully and wonderfully made!

God loves you so much! Go out and be a light in the world!

Peace and blessings to you and yours,

near and far, wherever you are!

Family, Faith, and Light

Hello out there and Happy New Year!

Last night, Jim and I went to the 6:30 pm Mass at our parish. It was such a blessing to see so many families and people at Mass on New Year's Eve. Jim is an usher and he said they counted about 340 people! I'm a numbers nerd, so I immediately thought about all the churches near and far and the number of people who were at Mass last night! What a blessing! I love seeing the babies and the toddlers with their parents! I'm always filled with an abundance of hope when I've been to Mass.

Yesterday morning, Jim pointed out the meditation in the Magnificat, our daily devotional. It was written by Pope Benedict XVI. The title of the meditation is "Praising God at the End of the Year" The entire meditation is written with so much wisdom, trust, faith and knowledge. I circled one paragraph that really opened my eyes. So many times we don't see the goodness, the compassion, the love that is all around us because that's not what makes the news or the headlines.

The paragraph I'm sharing is on page 470 in the December 2025 Magnificat, Vol. 27, No. 10

At times of course it is hard to understand this profound reality, because evil is noisier than goodness. An atrocious murder, widespread violence, grave forms of injustice hit the headlines, whereas acts of love and service, the daily effort sustained with fidelity and patience, are often left in the dark, they pass unnoticed.

In this meditation he also said, "However the year went, whether it was easy or difficult, barren or fruitful, let us give thanks to God."  My response is, Amen and Amen!

On Sunday, December 28th, we celebrated the feast of  The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. Meditating on the scriptures of the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary has touched my heart so deeply.

The First Joyful Mystery is the Annunciation: Luke 1:26-38

The Angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the
virgin's name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, "Hail, full of grace!
The Lord is with you." But she was greatly troubled at what was said and
pondered what sort of greeting this might be. Then the angel said to her,
"Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you
will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God
will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house
of Jacob forever, and of his Kingdom there will be no end."
But Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no relations with
a man?" And the angel said to her in reply, "The Holy Spirit will come upon
you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child
to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth,
your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth
month for her who was called barren; for nothing will be impossible for God."
Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me
according to your word." Then the angel departed from her.

The Second Joyful Mystery of the Rosary is the Visitation
Luke 1:39-43
Thereupon Mary set out, proceeding in haste into the hill country to a town of
Judah, where she entered Zechariah's house and greeted Elizabeth. When
Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leapt in her womb. Elizabeth was
filled with the Holy Spirit and cried out in a loud voice: "Blest are you
among women and blest is the fruit of your womb. But who am I that the
mother of my Lord should come to me?

I'm adding the next two verses from Luke 1:44,45
The moment your greeting sounded in my ears, the baby leapt in my womb for joy.
Blest is she who trusted that the Lord's words to her would be fulfilled."

The Third Joyful Mystery is The Birth of Jesus - Luke 2:7
She gave birth to her firstborn Son. She wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and
laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

The Fourth Joyful Mystery is The Presentation - Luke 2:22-23
When the days were completed for their purification according to the law
of Moses, they took Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord, just
as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb
shall be consecrated to the Lord."

I'm adding the following scriptures that go with the Presentation -Luke 24-35

Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord. He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and blessed God, Saying:

"Lord, now let your servant go in peace; your word has been fulfilled: my own eyes have seen the salvation which you prepared in the sight of every people, a light to reveal you to the nations and the glory of your people Israel."

The child's father and mother were amazed at what was said about him; and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, "Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted (and you yourself a sword will pierce) so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."

The Fifth Joyful Mystery is Finding the Child Jesus in the Temple - Luke 2:46
After three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the
teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.

On this first day of 2026 I pray for families everywhere and share these thoughts that come to my mind and help me to see the quiet humility, the love, patience, and fortitude that surpasses the noise if we open our eyes and our hearts to the light of Christ.

The families who take care of each other through good times and bad times. The aunts and uncles who step in as needed to lend their support.

The moms and dads who walk the floor at night with a colicky baby and wipes the face of their child who has thrown up. Those who teach their children to pray, and who comfort them when they are afraid. Parents who stay up praying when their teenage or young adult child have missed curfew or who have grown distant.

The adult child who lovingly takes care of an aging parent who may or may not remember their name.

The parents of a child who has a life threatening illness, or a diagnosis that is hard to accept. And the parents of a child who has passed away from illness or tragedy.

Single moms and single dads who do the very best they can to be both parents for their children.

The grandparents who are raising their grandchildren whatever the reason may be.

The list goes on and on if you think about all the daily struggles, the goodness, the kind acts, the love that is all around us if we look for the light in our families and in society. The following are a few examples of other ways we help one another. I'm sure you have your own that you can add to this list. We are blessed with so many places that feed the hungry, hand out groceries and clothing to those in need, offer counseling and guidance. Pregnancy help/resource centers that offer free services to not only unwed mothers but all mothers in need. All these ministries have people who are there to serve one another and who do so without pay.

I know that God sees all things and if we read the scriptures we understand that He is with us through it all, God is with us. Don't let the noise block the light - pray for strength to be the light that silences the noise.

Peace, light, and blessings to you and yours,

near and far,

wherever you are!

Bye for now, Sharla
